Teacher & Student Information
Health Career Day is offered annually to high school youth in order to broaden students' knowledge about the healthcare industry and the variety of healthcare career opportunities available.
2007 marked the first annual Pierce County Health Career Day. Since then, over 2,100 high school students have attended the event, including home schooled students, public, private and tribal high schools. Students attend workshops covering a myriad of health careers. College and career preparation workshops are also offered. For many students, this is their first exposure to healthcare careers beyond doctors and nurses.
Required Release Forms: A Field Trip Release is required for each student but should be kept by the teacher in their student files - please use your required school forms. This Model Release Form is also required for each student attending and must be presented by the chaperone or teacher accompanying the students at the time of registration. Please confirm that you have both documents.
Event Check-In
IMPORTANT CHANGE TO 2010 REGISTRATION: This year one major change has been made to the registration process: Please have all of your buses go directly to the UPS Field House parking lot without dropping off the students at the Wheelock Student Center. Event check-in for the students will be done at the UPS Field House. Have the students wait in the bus while one or two of your teachers or chaperones go into the Field House to pick-up the students' registration packets. This way you can return to the bus and talk with your students and answer any last minute questions while passing out their packets. It would also be a good time to talk with them about any other issues. We are hoping that this change will be particularly helpful in the event of inclement weather. Direct any students who will need assistance during the event to the information table in the Wheelock Student Center. The Field House Registration will close at 8:30 am and shift to the Wheelock Student Center for late arrivals. The Wheelock Student Center is 2 ½ blocks away from the Field House. As you leave the parking lot, the students can turn right (east) on 11th Street and walk ½ block to North Lawrence Street, then turn left (north) and travel 2 blocks directly to the Wheelock Student Center for a starting point. If your school will be arriving late, after 8:30 am, have the bus drop you and your students off at the Wheelock Student Center.
We hope that you will find this change helpful. Not only will this give your students a place to wait until it is time to leave for their Workshops but it will allow them to see where the buses are parked for their return.
